Description:
This massive bird is also known as the Eagle owl.
It is a rarely seen resident of the Greater Brisbane area. This was the only one of its kind I've ever seen so I was delighted to be able to get a shot.

Yes I needed some flash to capture him under the cover of the trees. His one-taloned pose is apparently typical of how they roost during the day. He was sitting above a small waterhole, probably waiting to pounce on small creatures coming down to drink.

Catherine Hall 19:13 - 25 June 2009Beautiful Karen. I have Tawny owls in my garden but very rarely see them, just hear them calling. They can be very noisy some nights and I do hear them call occasionally through the day but have never been able to get a photo. I'm envious.
