Description:
Both in this case? A fine example of "love it or hate it" architecture in the Brutalist style of the 60's.
This is the infamous "Get Carter" car park (or the Trinity Shopping Centre Car Park to give it its correct title) in Gateshead.
This is where Bryan "Alf who used to be in Coronation Street" Mosley got slung over the stairwell by Michael Caine.
You can see the unused cafe building at the top.
This was as close as I could get as they seem to have finally started to demolish it...
The stark treatment suits the grim subject matter I think.

Alan Brown 19:43 - 07 November 2009I recall there being long queues to wander around the place some time ago, when they announced that it was to be dismantled. Lots of people have an inexplicable emotional attachment to the place. It reminds me of pit heaps (remembered by some with fondness . . . . . . now that they have gone!!!)
Steve Pratt 19:44 - 07 November 2009Mick - in my opinion it is hideous and should have been knocked down years ago - Its easy for Sly Stallone to say save it - he doesn't have to live with it every week !
Anyway I say knock it down but wait a week so we can make sure it's photographed & documented first - nice one Mick
Scott Robertson 09:44 - 08 November 2009Beautiful, absolutely gorgeous. Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder and I appreciate that this isn't everyone's cup of tea. But it is mine!
I love the many tones of grey, the marked concrete and the harsh blocky angles.
Just think this was once the epitomy of modern town centre architecture. It makes me wonder how many of our new buildings which look 'nice' today will one day be viewed in this way?
Mick - cracker :)

Alan, I remember there being official tours not so long ago!! I would love to get inside it, especially that cafe space at the top.
Probably too late for that now..

Nice capture Mick, I'm one of the ones who likes the subject. the composision is good the cafe at the top looks almost like a set of eyes with the building sitting squat scowling at the prettier buildings surounding it. The B&W convert protrays the idea I belive you had when you took the image tho I think it could do with standing out from the background a little more. (only my opinion)
